DOG STRIKES AGAIN!

Stopped by a friends’ gallery yesterday for a visit. She does what I call recycled art. She scavenges all kinds of things then paints and glues to make cool stuff. The wall on the front street side of the gallery is covered with rescued plates and cups and bright colors. It’s not at all what one would expect to find in a small southern town. I’ll have to post some photos of the place one day.

I was talking to her about starting to stretch my own canvases because I just don’t have the time anymore to make frames or mount the wood, ( I prefer to paint on wood,) on frames, and it’s getting too cold to work outside anyway. Wouldn’t you know she had a bunch of frames in the back room that she had no use for but couldn’t bring herself to throw away. We packed those frames into my truck and I drove home feeling like I had hit the mother load. I spent the rest of the afternoon repairing the few broken ones and cutting panels of wood to fit the other ones. I was as happy as a pig in mud! Dog strikes again!! Synchronicity is an amazing thing. Now I should have more than enough to see me through the winter.

I’ve been feeling like I’ve been neglecting my painting. Just didn’t seem I’ve been getting much accomplished this year. When it comes to my art I tend to measure success by how many paintings I can finish in a year. In order to ascertain my progress I figured I’d write down all the paintings I’ve finished so far this year. Attempted counting them in my head but I would inevitably loose track. A side note: it’s a bit gratifying when you reach that point where your body of work has become large enough that it’s hard to remember all of it. Either that or I’m simply having senior moments. The list ends at 25. So far I’ve finished 25 paintings this year. That’s about double what I did last year and last year was an all time high for me. I guess I haven’t been as unproductive as I had imagined.
