lightbulb moment

I picked the last of my tomatoes this morning. I’m not altogether pleased with the tomatoes I grew this year. My dad brought me a bunch of plants so I stuck them in the garden instead of starting my own from seed. Last time I do that. Next year I’m going back to growing my brandy wines. I loooove those tomatoes. Brandy wines may be misshapen and down right homely looking but they are still the best tasting tomato out there as far as I’m concerned.

Back to this years tomatoes. I harvested what was left of them and they are all green and rather small. I put them on the window ledge in my mud room to ripen. Figured once they are ripe I’ll dehydrate them and use them for soups and stuff. They looked so cool on the window I added some of my Serrano peppers and took a picture. All those tomatoes in a row remind me of living in New Mexico as a child. This time of year neighbors would pick the last of the tomatoes from their gardens, and they all had gardens, and line them up on darn near every window ledge to ripen. Mine aren’t going to ripen though. That photo gave me an idea! I’m making green tomato salsa out of those puppies. That will pretty much take up today’s project. The cool part, the only thing going into the salsa that isn’t out of my garden will be salt, onions, and lemon juice. This is going to be some awesome salsa!

UPDATE: The salsa came out fantabulous! However, I don't think I'll be canning any. I made a sample batch but it never even got cooked, we ate it all. I have a feeling the same will happen to the next batch.
